Mid-July Competition Report from Gareth Robinson

MSCA Winton

It was a reduced field of AHSDC members that assembled in the dark at Winton on Sunday 9 July, with Peter Clarke not making it to the track due to trailer problems.

Rain overnight meant it was a slow first session for everyone, except perhaps Steven Rogers’ son Bryce who put on a show for everyone when he narrowly missed sliding his rear left side into the wall at the beginning of the start/finish straight with great car control.

Thankfully, the rain kept at bay, the clouds slowly lifted and the sun came out to help dry the track and allow everyone to progressively chip away at those initial times.

A relatively small field of cars meant that everyone got five sessions on track, and those who were super keen had the option of doing a sixth.

Bryce was the quickest Spridget on the day followed by Bill Vaughan, Steven Rogers and myself. John Powderham and Peter Harrison fought out a very close finish in their MX-5’s with both separated by less than four-hundredths of a second.

Peter Westcott in his amazing technicolour Volvo 122S competed in the regularity event driving to a nominated time of 2:16.

Sprite – Bryce Rogers (1:48.3098)
MX5 – John Powderham (1:48.6406)
MX5 – Peter Harrison (1:48.9900)
Bugeye – Bill Vaughan (1:50.2940)
Sprite – Steven Rogers (1:52.2587)
Midget – Gareth Robinson (1:53.7543)

Make sure your harness will pass scrutineering

MSCA scrutineers at Winton mentioned that they would require harnesses to be 3 inch with an FIA date for the next round at Phillip Island. Please make sure you read the sup regs for all events to avoid issues while we seek more information on this rule.
