Invitation to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the MK I

Team Social has decided that there is no better way to celebrate the 65th Anniversary of the Bugeye than by creating a beautiful convoy of cars rolling through the Dandenong and Yarra Ranges and culminating in Warburton. Upon arrival, we will park our cars and then gather for a celebratory luncheon in the Atrium at the recently fully renovated and welcoming Alpine Hotel in Warburton.

The cost of the luncheon is $10.00 pp for room hire; you then pay for your own meal and drinks. The meal prices are quite reasonable and the food is good (we have eaten there and were not disappointed).

Sprites on the M.O.V.E to Shepparton

Team Social has spent two days in Shepparton recently, organising what we think will be a perfect weekend away in June.

Our adventure begins with a convoy. Our boys have hithered, thithered, got lost, driven up dead-end roads and enthusiastically explored the countryside to ensure we will all have a pleasant scenic drive from Beasley’s Nursery to Shepparton. On the way, we will pause for coffee for those that need their caffeine (and a wee for those of us not on incontinence pads).

At approximately 1:00pm we will arrive in Shepparton, park our cars under cover and head for Milestone Café which serves very tasty lunches washed down with
your favourite beverage. After lunch we walk next door to the impressive, new Museum Of Vehicle Evolution – M.O.V.E. If you were there four years ago, even two years ago, you would have experienced less than a third of what they now have on offer. The modern extension has been described as “M.O.V.E .on steroids” and the exhibitions are much more significant. The Kenworth & Legends of Road Transport exhibition is fascinating and the stories of the drivers make you connect in a much more personal way with the exhibition. The fashion exhibition is also extensive and creatively presented. Of course, there are cars too, beautifully restored. Three of the top ten Australian restorers live and work in Shepparton and their work is on display in the venue. M.O.V.E regularly hosts other exhibitions and whilst we are there the Elfin cars will be displayed which should be a real treat.

And speaking of treats, if the above is not to your taste you will find an array of shops only two minutes’ walk away. There’s the Chocolate Apple Factory that hands out samples, a collectibles shop bursting at the seams, and even a nursery selling garden ornaments where you could buy a gnome to match your
Spridget.

Our accommodation is at the Peppermill Inn, which combines motel and hotel – we book in, park our cars in front of our rooms, meet for Happy Hour, and then
stroll across for our evening meal.

The following morning will find us at SAM, the Shepparton Art Museum, enjoying a private tour of this state of the Arts gallery. We will then luncheon at the café in the gallery and the formal part of our weekend is over. After that, some will gleefully head for the SPC factory sales whilst others enjoy their leisurely journey home.

Each of us in Team Social has been pleasantly surprised with what Shepparton has to offer. If you wish, there are walks around the lake, the Botanical gardens
or the lookout, tours of the silos in the area and even a mapped-out street art tour. Nearby there are Tahbilk and Mitchelson wineries, and Nagambie Brewery. It should be a whole lot of fun.

We are hoping you like what we have packaged and would love it if you would join us. What you need to do now is phone and book your accommodation
at:

Peppermill Inn Hotel, 7900 Goulburn Valley Highway, Kialla, 3630
Ph: 03 5823 1800
Email: entertainment@peppermillinn.com.au
Cost: $139. (We have booked the ground floor rooms in the name of AHSDC so all you need to do is advise you want one of these rooms and you will get the reduced rate)

Please advise Team Social that you have taken one of the booked rooms.

Sunday 26th March 2023 – Jazz is back at Monsalvat

Featuring the Joe Chindamo Trio

The Club is organising an afternoon of Jazz at Montsalvat followed by a meal at House Of Salad in Eltham.

The concert will be in the Barn Gallery which features not only Montsalvat’s best piano, but a bar in the corner to keep you refreshed.

The music begins at 5:00pm but keep your eyes peeled as we may be getting a tour of Montsalvat prior to the concert.

After the concert, we will all head to the House of Salad where you can BYO wine or purchase it from the restaurant.

Joe Chindamo is a musical polyglot whose art defies classification. While forging an international career as a brilliant jazz pianist – producing 23 CDs, topping Japanese Jazz charts, winning awards (including being inducted into the Bell Award Hall of Fame) and touring the world with the genre’s leading figures, he was working as “first call” pianist on over 60 film soundtracks and performing and recording with a plethora of leading artists from the worlds of opera, jazz, theatre and pop.

Latest Information

Thanks to all who have booked for Montsalvat – the address is 7 Hillcrest Avenue, Eltham. Gates will open for us at 4:00pm – please drive in and park on the grounds.
We will be greeted by Vincent Galante, a very experienced guide, who will take us through the grounds.

The bar will open at 4:30pm, with the concert starting at 5:00pm (there will be an interval). You may sip your drinks as you watch if you wish.

After the concert, we will drive to the House of Salad, 4/61 Beard Street, Eltham for our meal at 7:30pm.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Sunday 29th January 2023 – Festival of Motoring at Cruden Farm social drive and display

Date Confirmation, How to Register and Convoy Details

Date

Please note this event is on Sunday 29th January – not February as per the first email out (apologies, we thought the email had been recalled).

Registration

RACV needs each display car driver to individually register online at www.aomc.asn.au/festival-of-motoring.

In mid-January, RACV will mail out a green sticker to each registered driver to be affixed to their car.  This will ensure a faster and smoother entry to the event site than in the past.

Convoy

We will meet at Brandon Park Shopping Centre at 8:15 am (if you want to purchase a coffee there, arrive a little earlier), and a little after 8:30 am Kaz will lead off the convoy bound for Cruden Farm.

Cruden Farm

Remember to bring your chairs so you can relax as you enjoy the crusty bread and cheese (supplied by the Club) in comfort. There will be vans selling coffee or you might bring your own thermos filled with your favourite beverage. Food vans will also be there.

We have applied to have the Club shelter erected but RACV cannot confirm this until a week before the event – so bring your hats and/or rain umbrellas just in case.

If you are going straight to the Farm, Sue and Mike Dore, and Trish and John Niemann will be there to greet you.

RSVP to AHSDC

Please register with AOMC as above and also RSVP to the Club by emailing the social team at social@ahsdc.org.

Looking forward to a wonderful day.
